Ingredients & Instructions:

Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows: I used a 12 oz bag of marshmallows and would say that the texture of these bars is slightly heavier on the cereal than the marshmallow, which I prefer. If you like a gooey Rice Krispie treat, you can easily add more marshmallows!

  • Butter: We are going to spend some time browning our butter in a pan prior to mixing in the marshmallows. Do not skip the brown butter step, it’s key to achieving the best flavor in your brown butter Rice Krispie treats!

  • Rice Krispies Cereal: As featured in the traditional Rice Krispies recipe, I find these golden graham Rice Krispie treats to taste the best when they are mixed with classic Rice Krispies. It lightens the texture of the bars and makes them easier to eat!

  • Golden Graham Cereal: Aside from the brown butter, the golden graham cereal is the star of the show in these cereal Rice Krispie bars. Golden Grahams have the subtle flavor of graham crackers are are the perfect match for browned butter.

That’s all you’ll need for this recipe!

Recipe FAQs:

  1. Are Rice Krispie treats gluten free?

Golden Grahams do contain gluten so no, this is not a gluten free recipe.

If you need to make gluten free Rice Krispies, omit the golden grahams and replace them with gluten free Rice Krispies like The Real Cereal Company, 365 Organic Brown Rice Krisps, or Natures Path. Most popular brands of marshmallows in the naturally gluten free but of course double check to make sure they will work for you!

  2. How should I store them?

Rice Krispies are best stored in an air tight container or ziplock bag at room temperature. Rice Krispies tend to get a soggy or tough texture when they are refrigerated so I do not recommend refrigerating them.

  3. Feeding a crowd?

This recipe will be pressed into an 8x8 pan and will make about 12-18 rectangles depending on how large you cut them. If you want to make a larger portion of this recipe, I would simply double all of the ingredients and press them into the 9x13 pan.
