Buffalo chicken dip

I love anything buffalo. Buffalo wings, buffalo chicken pizza, and especially a warm, cheesy buffalo chicken dip. While the classic version is always a crowd pleaser, it's typically loaded with cream cheese, making it more of a special occasion appetizer than something I'd enjoy throughout the week.

That's exactly why I created this Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip. I wanted all the creamy, spicy flavor of traditional buffalo chicken dip in a recipe that could double as a high protein snack, appetizer, or even a balanced meal when paired with fresh vegetables or whole grain crackers.

Instead of relying on cream cheese, this healthier buffalo chicken dip uses a combination of creamy cottage cheese and nonfat Greek yogurt. The cottage cheese adds extra protein and a smooth, creamy texture, while the Greek yogurt brings the tangy flavor you love with less saturated fat and fewer calories. The result is a high protein buffalo chicken dip that's just as rich, cheesy, and satisfying as the classic recipe, but nourishing enough to make on repeat.

Whether you're meal prepping for the week, hosting game day, or bringing an appetizer to a party or potluck, this easy Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip is guaranteed to become a favorite.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • High in protein: Made with shredded chicken, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese, this Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip is packed with protein to help keep you full and satisfied while still delivering all the creamy, cheesy buffalo flavor you crave.

  • Easy to make: This recipe comes together with just a few simple ingredients and minimal prep. To save even more time, use rotisserie chicken or canned chicken for a quick appetizer or weeknight meal.

  • Perfect for meal prep: Prepare the buffalo chicken mixture up to a day in advance, then top with cheese and bake when you're ready to serve. It's an easy make ahead appetizer for game day, parties, or busy weeknights.

  • A healthier twist on a classic: By swapping traditional cream cheese for Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, you get the same rich, creamy texture with more protein, less saturated fat, and fewer calories.

  • Versatile and crowd pleasing: Serve this high protein buffalo chicken dip with fresh vegetables, whole grain crackers, tortilla chips, or toasted baguette slices for an appetizer everyone will love.

Ingredients:

  1. Cooked chicken- you can use rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, or cooked and shredded chicken

  2. Plain greek yogurt- I prefer non-fat to keep the calorie content lower but you can use whatever fat percentage you have.

  3. Cottage cheese- I used low fat cottage cheese

  4. Buffalo sauce- pick your favorite brand

  5. Seasonings- I recommend smoked paprika and black pepper. If you want a kick, add a dash of cayenne pepper as well.

  6. Shredded cheese- this is for topping! By adding the shredded cheese to the top, you are able to notice the cheese better and use a smaller portion than if the cheese were stirred in.

  7. Optional- top with green onions for a fresh flavor!

Recipe FAQ:

  1. How long does Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip last?

    • You can keep this buffalo chicken dip in the fridge for 3 to 5 days!

  2. How should this dip be served?

    • I recommend serving this dip warm and paired with some of the sides mentioned above like celery stalks, carrot sticks, bread chunks, or chips.

  3. Should I blend the cottage cheese?

    • Because the chicken itself adds a texture, I do not blend the cottage cheese and never notice the cottage cheese texture. If you prefer it to be smooth, you can blend the cottage cheese in a blender cup so that it is similar to the yogurt consistency!
