Does chicken and bacon go together?
Absolutely they do! Often served at separate mealtimes, chicken and bacon are actually a flavor match made in heaven. For this slider recipe, finely diced chopped bacon bits add a nice boost of salty and savory flavor to your chicken breast for a delicious bite that you will love.
While chicken bacon ranch recipes are a classic way to combine chicken and bacon, you can also see chicken and bacon flavors combined in recipes like this bacon wrapped chicken or creamy chicken and bacon pasta.

How to make chicken bacon ranch sliders
Ingredients:
Here are the ingredients you will need to make these chicken bacon ranch sliders:
Sweet Hawaiian Rolls: Buy the 24 count of Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. If you want to make fewer rolls for your party, you can also buy the 12 count of Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and simply halve the portion of the fillings in this recipe.
Shredded chicken: You can use rotisserie chicken or cooked and shredded chicken breast for this slider recipe. Pro tip- very finely shred your cooked chicken. The finer you shred (or chop) your chicken, the easier your sliders will pull apart.
Cooked bacon- We’ll be cooking the bacon first and then chopping it into bacon bits. If you want to save time, you can buy store-bought bacon bits.
Green onion- This will be added to the chicken mixture and sprinkled on the tops of the rolls for garnish and flavor.
Unflavored greek yogurt- Plain greek yogurt is the base of your creamy ranch dressing and adds a boost of protein and nutrition to your sliders. You can use any fat percentage you prefer but I recommend using low fat greek yogurt for a thinner dressing consistency.
Hidden Valley ranch seasoning- I used the classic hidden valley ranch seasoning for this recipe but you could also use a homemade ranch seasoning if preferred.
Freshly shredded cheddar cheese- Cheddar cheese OR Colby jack cheese will work for this recipe.
Fresh slices of sharp white cheddar- A non-negotiable in this slider recipe.
Butter: We’ll brush seasoned melted butter on the tops of the rolls to help them crisp up in the oven.
Dried italian seasoning- This will be mixed into the melted butter and adds a burst of flavor to your sliders. Trust me, it’s delicious! If you prefer to skip the extra herbs, you could also stir some garlic in to your butter to make a classic garlic butter topping instead.
That’s it!
Instructions:
Step 1
If you are not using store bought bacon bits, start by cooking up your bacon in a large saucepan over medium heat until it is fully cooked through. Set your cooked bacon onto a paper towel to remove some of the grease, pat it dry, then chop it into small bacon bits once it’s cool enough to touch.
Prep your chicken mixture by combining your cooked and very finely shredded or chopped chicken (you can use rotisserie chicken or cooked chicken breast), bacon bits, and green onion in a large mixing bowl.
In a smaller bowl, stir together your greek yogurt and ranch seasoning to make a creamy ranch dressing. Pour that over your chicken mixture and stir until everything is combined.
Next, prep your Hawaiian sweet rolls by gentle slicing them in half and separating the tops and the bottoms. Do not pull your sliders apart at this step, simply place your whole block of rolls on a flat surface and use a large serrated knife to cut the block in half.
Place the bottom half in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Step 2
Now, we will layer our slider fillings. First, add a layer of sharp white cheddar cheese slices to the bottom layer of the rolls. Then, add your chicken mixture and use a fork or clean hands to evenly spread the chicken mixture out into a fine layer, reaching the corners.
Top the chicken mixture with shredded cheese then replace the tops of the rolls. In a small bowl, warm your butter and italian seasoning together until it is just melted then brush on the tops of the rolls.
Step 3
Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops of your sliders are golden brown and slightly crispy.
Top your sliders with freshly sliced green onions and extra bacon bits for garnish and serve warm. Enjoy!
LTN Tip- You have a few options to separate your sliders. You can 1) Cut the sliders, following the roll lines, with a knife inside the baking dish to make them easier to serve or 2) Use the classic, pull apart method being sure to grab the bottoms of the rolls when you pull your slider out of the dish.
Swaps, substitutions, and serving suggestions:
These bacon ranch sliders with chicken are incredibly customizable and can be made a different way for every party or family dinner that you serve them at! Here are a few suggestions:
Use ground chicken- If you don’t want to use rotisserie chicken or cooked and shredded chicken breast, you can also use cooked ground chicken for this recipe. This would make the sliders easier to pull apart!
Use a different ranch dressing: If you do not want to make this recipe with the greek yogurt ranch dressing then you can easily swap it out for bottled ranch dressing or your own favorite homemade ranch dressing recipe.
Add some heat: You can use jalapeño bacon or simply add diced jalapeños to add a little bit of heat to your slider recipe.
Stir in some seasonings: Add some extra flavor to your chicken mixture with a dash of garlic powder, onion powder, or dried chives.
Use pretzel buns: I do think that the most delicious sliders are served on Hawaiian sweet rolls but you could also try serving this chicken bacon ranch sliders on pretzel bun sliders instead!
Add other mix-ins: Chicken bacon ranch recipes can be loaded with other flavors like red onion, mozzarella cheese, colby jack cheese, green peas, and more.

Recipe FAQ:
Can these sliders be made ahead of time?
They can! This recipe is absolutely best served freshly baked but if you wanted to prep them ahead of time then one way you could do that is to prep the chicken filling ahead of time, store it, then assemble your sliders right before you are going to bake and serve.
Another way to prep these sliders in advance would be to prep and bake them according to the recipe then store them in the refrigerator. When you are ready to serve them, simply cover the 9x13 with foil and reheat at 300 degrees until warmed through.
Can I make this recipe with 12 sliders instead?
This recipe is written to make 24 sliders but you could easily make it into a 12 slider recipe by using half of the portions listed on this recipe card.
My sliders are hard to pull apart! Any suggestions?
While they do make a tasty handheld, sliders can also be a bit messy to pull apart.
My biggest advice to make it easier to separate your sliders is to make sure your chicken is VERY finely shredded or chopped… the chicken pieces are what hold the sliders together so the easier it is to pull your chicken apart, the easier it is to separate your sliders.
Another tip that you can try is to use a knife and cut your sliders into individual sliders, cutting along the roll lines, after you have baked this recipe. You can then serve the cut sliders straight out of the 9x13 dish or plate them on a platter instead.
