A white plate holds several round chocolate chip cookie dough protein balls. Surrounding the plate are scattered chocolate chips and a baked cookie, set on a wooden table with linen cloths, evoking a cozy, homemade feel.

Why you’ll love this protein cookie dough:

You’ll love this protein ball recipe because it is:

  • No-bake: A no bake dessert or snack is an easy way to eat more protein. By using oat flour, this no bake protein ball is perfectly safe to eat with no baking. Simply mix all of these protein cookie dough ingredients together in a bowl, roll them into a ball, and enjoy!

  • Easy to snack on: Keeping protein snacks on hand is essential to meeting your protein goals throughout the day, balancing blood sugar, and maintaining your energy levels.

  • Customizable: This recipe mimics a protein chocolate chip cookie dough but you can easily swap out the chocolate chips for other preferred cookie ingredients that can be added to your protein cookie dough mix.

  • Meal prep friendly: Prep this protein balls on a sunday and enjoy them throughout the week.

  • DELICIOUS: Protein cookie dough that ACTUALLY tastes like cookie dough? That’s a recipe worth trying!

Ingredients you’ll need:

Here’s what you’ll need for protein cookie dough:

  • Oat flour: Oat flour keeps this a no-bake recipe. You can swap this for almond flour if that’s what you have on hand.

  • Almond butter: I recommend using almond butter for these cookie dough protein balls because I find the flavor to be less over powering than peanut butter.

  • Butter: You may be tempted to leave this out of the recipe (and you can if you insist) but I highly recommend using butter for this protein ball because it will enhance the cookie dough flavor. Trust me on this one!

  • Vanilla whey protein powder: This will add a perfect level of neutral sweetness to your protein cookie dough. Feel free to substitute this for another flavor of protein powder that works best with the cookie flavor you are trying to mimic.

  • Milk: This will hydrate your protein cookie dough and give it the moist texture of typical cookie dough!

  • Vanilla extract: A cookie dough must.

  • Maple syrup: To add some sweetness and help your protein cookie dough balls stick together. Otherwise, your dough will be too crumbly.

  • Chocolate chips: you can use mini or regular, dark chocolate or semi-sweet, or even sub for cacao nibs! This will really give your protein cookie dough that classic cookie dough flavor.

  • Salt: To balance out the sweet

That’s all you’ll need for these protein balls.

Swaps, substitutions, and suggestions:

Here are a few changes you can make to this recipe:

  • Use a different flour: The key to a no-bake dessert recipe is to make it with flour that is safe to eat raw such as oat flour or almond flour. This recipe calls for oat flour but you can easily swap that for another safe to eat flour option that you have on hand.

  • Make them into homemade protein bars: Cookie dough protein balls not your thing? Make this recipe into cookie dough protein bars instead! Simply press your cookie dough into a loaf pan, cool, then cut it into bars.

  • Skip the chocolate chips: If you drop the chocolate chips, you have a classic protein cookie dough recipe that can be mixed with any fillings of choice and turned into any healthy cookie dough recipe.
